The 9th Annual Cytogenetics and Genomics Northwest (CytoNoW) Regional Meeting is quickly approaching! We are excited to announce that Dr. Soheil Shams will be speaking about the Importance of Seeing the Whole Picture in Genetic Testing from 1:00pm - 2:00pm on Saturday, September 21st.
Title: Importance of Seeing the Whole Picture in Genetic Testing
Description: The field of Cytogenetics has a long and distinguished history with a focus on detecting “large scale” chromosomal aberrations, e.g. copy number variations, inversions, and translocations. At the same time, molecular genetic testing has provided substantial contribution in detection of clinically relevant variations on much smaller scale, SNVs, In/Dels, etc. These disciplines have traditionally been distinct using different technologies to perform their corresponding tests. With the advent and rapid adoption of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), the same tool can provide information for both cytogenetic as well as molecular tests. Taking advantage of this, we will show how combining all of the data in a single view can help the analyst better understand the results and ultimately provide a higher quality clinical report to the patient and clinician.
We hope to see you in Portland for this meeting! If you can't make it, follow us on social media to get live updates!
